A Cuisine Hat for The Runholder

The Runholder is incredibly proud and grateful to have been awarded a Hat at the 2026 Cuisine Good Food Awards!

For our team, this recognition means so much. We’re passionate about creating a place that reflects the very best of our region, from what’s on the plate to what’s in the glass, and the people behind it all.

At the heart of The Runholder is our amazing team whose passion, care and hard work make what we do possible. Erin, Rocky and our dedicated team are committed to delivering exceptional food, wine, gin and genuine hospitality, creating memorable experiences for every guest who walks through our doors.

To our wonderful guests and community who have supported us since we opened our doors three years ago, thank you for choosing to dine with us and for being part of our journey.

A big thank you to Kelli Brett, Kerry Tyack and the panel for celebrating and elevating New Zealand hospitality and talent. We’re honoured to be acknowledged among such outstanding company.

And a special congratulations to Palliser Kitchen by Norka, proudly representing the very best of our Wairarapa region, and to all of the exceptional winners recognised.

Bringing together the best of Wairarapa’s fresh produce, fine wines and celebrated gin, The Runholder offers a true taste of the region under one roof. Settle in for a relaxed winery lunch or a cosy dinner with a menu spanning charcoal-grilled seafood, prime cuts and generous à la carte plates that showcase the bounty of local produce. All plates are thoughtfully paired with The Runholder’s wine and gin.

Rooted in Martinborough’s farming heritage and the land that surrounds it, offering elevated vineyard dining with sweeping views and a warm, inviting dining room that feels cosy even on the coldest nights. Overseen by Erin Lawton-McKenzie, the service is faultless, while head chef Raquel (Rocky) Regis delivers rustic yet refined dishes that speak to the region’s identity. Standouts include succulent Wairarapa lamb ribs with harissa, pearl barley tabbouleh and sheep’s milk labneh. Desserts are polished and thoughtful, with the Greytown honey cake and burnt honeycomb a highlight.

Paired with wines from Te Kairanga and Martinborough Vineyards, it’s a destination well worth planning a visit to.
